ALIA West
October 2002CPD column
September is the busiest month, bringing [with apologies to T S Eliot's The Waste Land] September has been the busiest month with CAVAL's indexing courses, the New Norcia Library Lecture, copyright seminars, Phil Teece's visit, and of course the South West Forum. The Forum revealed a wealth of local talent and would have to be the best CPD event I have attended this year. There was never a dull moment, the presenters were all good, it was ridiculously cheap, and a great opportunity for learning and networking. I would certainly recommend getting hold of the proceedings when they are ready. One of the comments that Phil Teece made was that librarians tend to undersell themselves but I think the SW Forum proves that we can achieve great things if we set our minds to it. Our next professional reading group meeting will be on Monday 28 October at Villa Italia at 5:30pm. The reading is "Heads or Tales: Can Tacit Knowledge Really be Managed?" by Karen Bishop which is available at: http://conferences.alia.org.au/alia2000/proceedings/karen.bishop.html. RSVP by 24 October to Jeanette Hill (Jeanette.hill@landcorp.com.au). Those of you registered for CPD membership may find the CPD spreadsheet rather disappointing. I have added a couple of formulas so that it will automatically put in weightings and calculate the number of hours per activity type. If you want a copy, you can e-mail me at ctpeters@myrealbox.com
