CPD column

September is the busiest month, bringing
Phil Teece out of the dead land, mixing
Professional and social, stirring
Dulled minds with more CPD.
SW Forum kept us warm, dragging
Us out of a low, feeding
A little life into jaded library workers.
CAVAL surprised us, coming over the East divide
With a course on indexing; we stopped in New Norcia,
And went on to copyright, into industrial relations,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.

September has been the busiest month with CAVAL's indexing courses, the New Norcia Library Lecture, copyright seminars, Phil Teece's visit, and of course the South West Forum. The Forum revealed a wealth of local talent and would have to be the best CPD event I have attended this year. There was never a dull moment, the presenters were all good, it was ridiculously cheap, and a great opportunity for learning and networking. I would certainly recommend getting hold of the proceedings when they are ready. One of the comments that Phil Teece made was that librarians tend to undersell themselves but I think the SW Forum proves that we can achieve great things if we set our minds to it.

Our next professional reading group meeting will be on Monday 28 October at Villa Italia at 5:30pm.
