Informit Training 2002

On behalf of RMIT Publishing CAVAL will be conducting training in the use of Informit Online products across Australia and New Zealand during 2002. The comprehensive training programs will provide practical and hands-on instruction that will enable participants to fully utilise these information rich resources.

The training programs will introduce the full text products that have recently been released by RMIT Publishing and will provide hands-on training of selected products to:

  • Introduce the WebSPIRS search interface
  • Illustrate search strategy processes for the identified titles
  • Provide tips on exploiting the search processes, especially searching fielded data
  • Identify the full text content that is available through the selected products

The program is aimed at participants who have some familiarity with search concepts, but need introduction to the WebSPIRS interface and the RMIT Publishing products. It will enable both new and experienced searchers to strengthen their ability to locate information using the RMIT Publishing products.

Information management, reference and research staff will benefit from this training program.

Cost: $132 (non-members); $110 (CAVAL and ALIA members) (prices include 10% GST)

Introduction to metadata

A half-day information session designed to answer your questions about metadata (and help you formulate those questions you don't know you should be asking!)

What is Metadata? What does it do?
Clarifying the terminology
What standards exist?
Who is doing what with it?
To metadata or not to metadata - what is the difference? or 'What's in it for me?'
Understanding the difference between 'applying metadata' and 'web content management'.

Target audience: Anyone who wants to understand more about what metadata is and what it can be used for.

Cost: CAVAL and ALIA individual members: $110.00; Non-members: $132.00
