Libraries Looking Out: a South West Forum.

The ALIA WA Library Technicians Group will be hosting a one and a half day Forum in Bunbury in September of 2002. This forum is a joint venture between our group, WA Forum and the South West Library Link. It is an opportunity to showcase the diverse talents and interests of the library industry here in WA and is aimed at all levels of library workers, from assistant to manager. We have a varied program of talks and workshops, covering such topics as how to promote your library to using cartoons to encourage young adults to use the library. We are fortunate in having the Minister for Culture and the Arts, the Honourable Sheila McHale to give our keynote address and to sit on our panel discussion regarding the issues facing libraries in the electronic environment.

This forum will be an opportunity to think strategically about the future of libraries in WA: particularly regional WA. It will also provide an opportunity to pick up some new skills.

The Forum is very reasonably priced at $90.00 for ALIA members and full time students, and $120.00 for non members. Day registration is available.

Given our geographical isolation and the difficulty some face in attending conferences in other states this will be a great networking and professional development opportunity not to be missed.

Bonnie Rae Bruce
Convenor
