ALIA West
July 2002CPD columnIf you are on aliaOBBL (the ALIA office-bearer's list), you may have noticed in the report on the Board meeting of 23 May that membership starts as member liaison officer on July 15. Georgina's focus will be on ALIA groups and CPD. Some of you will have met Georgina at the National Policy Congress 2001 or at KISWA or WA Forum functions as she has been the Convenor of KISWA and was also on the LIW 2002 Committee. Georgina's e-mail will be georgina.dale@alia.org.au. In June we held a Professional Reading Group meeting to discuss the LISEKA Project. The aim of the project is to look at career long learning for information professionals and three models were suggested: 1) the status quo, 2) career long learning (update skills and knowledge continuously) and 3) practising professional program (advanced/specialised training in particular areas for practitioners). The consensus of the group was that the current model is preferred but with a significantly beefed up CPD component. The discussion at the meeting has been used in WA Forum's submission to ALIA. The Project Working Group's recommendations will be considered at the Board meeting in August. Phil Teece will be visiting WA in mid-September and we are in the process of organising the WA Forum function. Further details will be released when we have finalised arrangements. Other groups will be organising their own event so it will be a busy week. September does seem to be particularly busy as the indexing courses have been moved to the beginning of September (please note the reduction in price), the South West seminar is on, Phil Teece will be visiting and the annual Copyright seminars will be here.
