ALIA Board of Directors elections 2002

As the convenor of WA Forum, with a strategic perspective on professional library and information management matters in WA in mind, I encourage you to exercise your democratic right to vote and participate in the Board of Directors election 2002.

It is of most particular significance for Western Australia that we have one of our own standing for election this time. Deanne Barrett, library manager at the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission has offered her services to the Association.

Deanne has a long and distinguished history of involvement with ALIA as a general councillor, CPD convenor, National president of Specials and numerous other office-bearing and committee positions. Deanne brings to the Board her passion for special libraries and her long term CPD involvement and commitment. She also has one other most special attribute, besides the obvious one of our very own Western Australian representative, that of the new, fresh and vibrant perspective of youth. Deanne is the youngest person to offer herself for election and would be the youngest board member. This is a perspective we of the Association need to consider in order to remain relevant in today's fast moving information society. Whilst youth is one of Deanne's special attributes she also brings the wisdom and experience of involvement in Board processes as a member of the advisory board of the School of Media and Information at Curtin University.

Please remember to vote and I urge you to vote for our Western Australian representative.

Bobbie Bruce
Convenor
ALIA West 2002

Editor's note: Ballots must be received at ALIA National Office by 22 April 2002.
