ALIA Victoria Group

July-December 2001 report

The ALIA Victorian Branch was succeeded in July 2001 by ALIA VIC Group after the 2001 Annual General Meeting of the Branch. Fifty branch members agreed to sponsor the new Group, which was formed under the guidelines that came into effect in July 2001.

The new executive is comprised of:

  • Convenor, Stephen O'Connor (CAVAL Collaborative Solutions)
  • Secretary/Treasurer, Ian McGregor (Yarra Plenty Regional Library)

A reference group of members who initiated the new Group is comprised of:

  • Bruce Davidson (Parliamentary Library of Victoria),
  • Karen Marston (Distance Education Centre)
  • Moyra McAllister (Blake Dawson Waldron)
  • Sue McKnight (Deakin University)
  • Alison O'Connor (Blake Dawson Waldron)
  • Cherryl Schauder (RMIT)

Members of this reference group have already undertaken the actual planning and co-ordination of the ALIA VIC Group's activities. They are essential to the continuing activities of the Group.

A panel discussion about the use of public access PCs, which was held on 30 October, attracted 65 members. Speakers were from the public, school, special and academic library sectors. A very interesting discussion took place.

A second meeting is planned for 13 December 2001. This will be the Group's Christmas function.

Stephen and Ian would like to thank the reference group members and the Victorian membership for their support to date.
