ALIA Tasmania [aliatas]

ALIA Tasmania is a cross-regional, cross-sectoral statewide group. It provides professional development activities, membership services and lobbies to increase public awareness of all library services.

Planned activities include visiting speakers, state-wide conference, workshops, promotion campaigns, political lobbying and co-operation with other professional associations. Communication includes monthly newsletter, e-list, calendar of events.

Registrations are now open for the ALIA Tasmania conference, "Growing your career: what does the future hold for you?"

This one-day conference on career development will focus on three themes:

  • The future of library work
  • Empowering your career
  • Where can you career take you?

Date: Sunday 12 October 2008
Time: 10.00am – 4.00pm
Venue: Rosny Library, Bligh Street, Rosny

Registration and morning tea

Welcome

Dr Gilliam Hallam will talk about the current and future profiles of the library workforce, including an overview of the Tasmanian library sector gained from the neXus survey.

Panel session: Local librarians will share their stories of changing careers and sectors.

Lunch

Mary McGuinness of the Institute of Type Development will talk about matching personality type to career choices.

Workshop: Dr Gilliam Hallam will lead a practical workshop on how lifelong learning strategies can be used to progress your career.
