Newsletter, February 2008

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the committee members of ALIA Schools I am writing to give you our calendar of events for 2008. Contact details for committee members can be found at www.alia.org.au under the heading Groups.

Professional Development: please mark the following dates in your diary.

  • April 19: The Connected Library see attached flyer
  • June 21: Go graphic: the power of the graphic
  • August/September online forum: Unpacking the manual
  • October 25: ICTs including Web 2.0, Pods, Vods and more

Call for expressions of interest: As part of an initiative, you are invited to submit an expression of interest to give a presentation at either the Go graphic or the ICTs seminar. There will be two formats for the presentations: a 30 minute talk or a 90 minute workshop. A 250 word abstract is to accompany the expression of interest which is due by March 11, 2008. An application form is available on the group's website or it can be requested from ryansan@santamaria.vic.edu.au. The committee will choose sessions that are most suitable to the content and format of the seminar.

As inaugural and ongoing chair of this group, Anne has demonstrated great vision, outstanding leadership and a commitment to the profession that is beyond compare. ALIA Schools is deeply indebted to her and thanks her for the enormous contribution she has made. Her work on the joint ALIA/ASLA PAG was instrumental in establishing a united national voice for teacher librarians. There is currently a vacancy for an ALIA representative on the PAG, should you be interested in applying, please contact Sue Hutley at ALIA.

Regular electronic communication with members is again a priority for 2008 so please join the e-list so that you can receive regular communication from ALIA.
