ALIA SA
January-June 2003
Six-monthly report to the ALIA Board of Directors
ALIA SA promotes the services provided by South Australian library and information agencies and ALIA groups. The group facilitates and co-ordinates professional development opportunities including a mentoring program. The group encourages SA members to attend through publicising as widely as possible in the region.
Office-bearers
Katherine Shaw - Convenor
Jonathon Dyer - Treasurer
Jenny Holbrook - Secretary
Activities
- Committee meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month. ALIA SA is comprised of Convenors of all SA groups, and welcomes members to attend.
- Jennifer Nicholson visited in March and an event was held at the Barr Smith Library where Jennefer spoke about the issues ALIA is facing, and answered questions about such topics as the situation with the CPD programme, and the appointment of a local presence office in SA.
- A large Student Awards ceremony was held in May for graduating students of Information Studies of the University of South Australia. An ALIA award of one years membership was presented to two students. A member from each of the groups in ALIA SA spoke about the benefits of joining ALIA.
- Several Convenors from the groups in SA spoke to the students enrolled in the subject 'Professional Practice' in the Graduate Diploma of Information Studies about ALIA and what students can gain from being an active part of their professional association.
- Planning for the ALIA SA Regional Symposium, called "Out of the Blue, Surfing the Lake" are well under way. The symposium, which will investigate and discuss innovative technological and human/person based solutions to information services and delivery mechanisms, is to be held on 17-18 October 2003 in Mt Gambier.
Budget
The situation with the Budget is unchanged from the last 6 months. ALIA SA is still in debit due to ALIA charging for the production of the newsletter from the group budget rather than the newsletter budget which was set up for that purpose at the inception of the group.
Communications
The InterALIA newsletter is produced and distributed each month in print form. Earlier this year ALIA SA was told by ALIA that funding would no longer be available for the newsletter in print form. The editor of the print version resigned in February. There are plans to produce an online version and appoint a voluntary committee to oversee the production of the newsletter.
