Basic 101 Workshops

During 2007 ALIA SA ran a wide range of practical hands-on professional development workshops for the community on the basic web 2.0 technologies. The response was very enthusiastic, and a number of suggestions were provided for future workshops. As a group we are always responding to the professional development needs of our members. It was clear that members were keen for sessions that built on the basic Web 2.0 foundation sessions held in 2007!

So... in 2008, ALIA-SA will run a series of workshops called the 'Beyond 101's series'. Each workshop will cover a Web 2.0 application or idea. The workshops will be:

  • hands-on and practical
  • give you a chance to experiment and try new things in a safe and supportive environment
  • run by librarians, not necessarily experts, with an interest in Web 2.0

Workshop topics will be covering:

Advanced Blogging
Web 2.0 toolbox (creating a feed for your RSS readers ; personalise your homepage with netvibes or iGoogle ; Learn how to install the LibX toolbar)
Second life demonstration
But what is it....             Delicious...    tagging...    Folksonomies...

More details on each workshop, including time and location, will be posted here, on the ALIA web calendar, and on the ALIA-SA Blog and SA e-lists closer to the workshop date.

In the planning is also a "Web 2.0 Unconference"... which will be held in July. More details to follow.... add the ALIA-SA Blog RSS feed to your on-line reader to keep up to date!

Your suggestions for future topics and workshops are welcome! Just contact Kate Sinclair or Helen Kwaka with your ideas.
