ACTive ALIA convenor's column

Kurrajong 'happy hour'

Kick-start the year with ACTive ALIA on Friday 13 February! We will meet at Hotel Kurrajong, National Circuit, Barton, from 5:30pm. Come and enjoy a 'happy hour' and music while you catch up with people and events. There will be no formal meeting. We decided that the recently renovated Art Deco Hotel would be a great venue for a get-together. It features elegant verandahs and charming courtyards that are so relaxing for that after-work drink. More information? Contact Jan Gordon, on ph 02 6268 8122 or j.gordon@adfa.edu.au

Expressions of interest for convenor, treasurer or secretary of ACTive ALIA

Would you like to be convenor, treasurer or secretary of the ACTive ALIA group? The present long-serving executive has decided it is time to stand down, giving a chance for new ALIA members to become involved and bring in their new ideas. So we are now formally calling for expressions of interest from ALIA members in the region to take on these posts.

The rules say that each ALIA group must have three office-bearers: a convenor, a treasurer and a secretary. A minimum of two people may hold these three positions. Group office-bearers must be either personal financial members of the Association or the appointed representative of a financial institutional member. You can e-mail expressions of interest to Sherrey Quinn e-mail: sherrey.quinn@alianet.alia.org.au.

ACTive ALIA (formerly the ACT Branch) covers the ACT and our local region, including Cooma and the Far South Coast. It provides communication among library professionals of all sectors, arranges and supports professional development activities, promotes the role of libraries and lobbies on local matters, and promotes ALIA membership. One of its communication tasks is to ensure the regular production of your proACTive newsletter.

ACTive ALIA has developed access to the internet for its members and encourages sections and special interest groups to participate in internet-based activities such as the world wide web, electronic mail, discussion groups, conferences and other facilities.

On behalf of the executive of ACTive ALIA I would like to thank you for your continuing support and urge you to take an active part in your professional association in 2004.
