ACTive ALIA convenor's column

Party! Party! Party!
On behalf of the ACTive ALIA group may I wish all our ALIA members in the ACT a merry Christmas and a happy new year. I am looking forward to seeing you at the Group's Christmas drinks with Christmas goodies on Wednesday, 11 December. The function will be held in the National Library of Australia 4th Floor Conference Room.

RSVP by 9 December to: Helen Roberts, ph. 6125 4068, helen.roberts@anu.edu.au .

We have an exciting past year to celebrate, with many interesting events for example:

  • An updating talk on copyright by Nick Smith, who was copyright adviser to the Australian Libraries Copyright Committee.
  • Our Library and Information Week activity. In a joint initiative, ACTive ALIA and the ACT Library and Information Services held a competition for the best short story on the theme of Libraries change lives - how library and information services make a difference. This produced many interesting and inspiring stories.
  • Our midwinter dinner, prize and quiz night. Colin Steele organised the quiz. Book prizes were donated by the University Coop Bookshop Canberra. During the evening awards were presented to outstanding students graduating in Library and Information Studies from the University of Canberra.
  • A talk by Tom Ruthven on the ILL benchmarking study.
  • A talk by Georgina Dale, the recently appointed member liaison officer at ALIA National Office.

Keep the second Wednesday of each month free to attend next year's activities.

And a very merry Christmas to you all!
