National resource sharing forum and field day | ACT technicians

National resource sharing forum and field day
The National Resource Sharing Policy Committee and Working Group will conduct a resource sharing forum and field day on Monday and Tuesday, 11 and 12 November, at the National Library of Australia. The committee invites all library decision makers, interlibrary loan and document delivery practitioners to attend this special event.

Forum day
The forum day will discuss new models for resource sharing and ideas for improving library services and processes. The recommendations of the Peak Bodies Forum to 'define a service model to ensure that individuals can access information easily regardless of their location' will be addressed and the policy implications of the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Benchmarking Study will also be discussed.

The program for the forum day will include the following key papers:

  • The future of document delivery to be presented by Mary E Jackson of the US Association of Research Libraries
  • The results of ILL/DD Benchmarking Study to be presented by Tom Ruthven, National Library of Australia.
  • New models for sharing resources to be presented by the National Resource Sharing Working Group.
  • International reviews from New Zealand and Canada, with Jenny McDonald and Graham Coe from the National Library of New Zealand and Paula Kelsall from the National Library of Canada.
  • A panel discussion where speakers will respond to the findings of the ILL/DD Benchmarking Study and its implications for libraries in Australia. Perspectives will be given for; universities; special libraries; public libraries; regional libraries and consortia.

The full program can now be seen at http://www.nla.gov.au/rsforum/index.html

Field day
The Field day will involve various industry vendors presenting their products from major ILL/DD automation packages. It will provide an opportunity for policy and decision makers in libraries to view software options for the automation of interlending processes and for libraries to communicate their system requirements to vendors.

This program for the Field Day will include presentations by representatives from these vendors: Clio (Endeavour), ELiAS, Epixtech (RSS), Fretwell Downing Informatics (VDX), Infotrieve (the Virtual Library etc), Innovative Interfaces Inc (Innopac), National Library of Australia (Kinetica Document Delivery), RLG.
