ACTive ALIA
ACTive ALIA Meeting, 11 July 2001
The meeting opened at 5:30pm.
- Ann Millar gave an interesting presentation on the compiling of The Biographical Dictionary of the Australian Senate. She really made the senators come to life with fascinating stories about their lives and how they became senators. Volume 1 was officially launched last November and would be a valuable resource for any library.
- In attendance: Helen Roberts (president), Jan Gordon (immediate past president), Julie Ward (secretary), Julie Philips, Margaret Drury, Jeremy Hodes, Margaret Shaw, Kylie Moloney, George Miller.
- Apologies: Roxanne Missingham, Glenis Matheson, Jeanette Regan, Peter Judge, Beth Clary, Marion Boyd.
- The president welcomed those present to the meeting.
- Minutes of the last meeting:
The minutes from the meeting of 13 June 2001 were accepted with a couple of minor spelling corrections.
- Reports:
- President's report: Helen reported that she has written a letter to ALIA about the lack of consultation for the new fee structures. The Copyright Committee met recently. She has received a query about the mentoring program from a member. There have been discussions on the mentoring program situation. Helen reported that Roxanne had suggested a sub-committee of ACTive ALIA should be formed for the program. Jan will hold further discussions with Roxanne.
- Treasurer's report: Helen reported that the Group might have a new treasurer soon.
- Secretary's report: Julie W reported that she had received an e-mail from Sandra Reid who was seeking an appropriate function for the Innovation of the Year Award 2001. Sandra requested that the presentation be made at the midwinter dinner. A discussion followed on who would pay for the recipients to attend the dinner. It was decided that the Group is happy to have them attend the midwinter dinner and award night if their costs for the evening are covered.
