Goals for 2007

1. Membership growth through retaining existing members and attracting new members

To maintain its profile and reputation as the national professional organisation for Australia's library and information services (LIS) sector, ALIA needs to increase its membership across all categories of members, all careers stages and all sectors.

Priorities to December 2007

  1. Work to maintain a high membership retention rate of at least 90 per cent, across all membership categories

  2. Increase member numbers through targeted membership recruitment campaigns to:
    1. Increase the number of institutional members

    2. Ensure that a higher proportion of LIS students and those entering the LIS workforce join the Association and continue their membership while they are working in the sector.

  3. Provide services and activities that members value and that are attractive to potential members

  4. Communicate and market ALIA's services, activities and achievements to members, potential members and the LIS sector.

Membership recruitment and retention programs will take into account the points raised at the 2005 NAC [report of the 2005 NAC].
