3. Celebrating success

The Group Representative will expand on these at the meeting in Canberra: Virtual Reference Seminar; Establishing the e-version of InterALIA (SA's monthly newsletter); The Specials, Health and Law Libraries Conference (to be held 24-27 August 2003 in Adelaide).

4. Research exchange and partnership (REAP) initiative

Research topics
Electronic access to resources; Online learning and teaching; E-print repositories for academic libraries. More may be suggested as representatives discuss this with their respective groups.

5. Continuing professional development

a) What are the priorities?
It was felt that SA members missed out on hearing international speakers who only visit the eastern seaboard, and that more of an effort should be made to encourage them to come to South Australia.

b) What are the gaps between courses offered by brokered partnerships, ALIA conferences and ALIA Group CPD activities?
The group identified a gap between locally-driven events and those on a national scale - in terms of quality, cost and availability. A middle ground of affordable, local and professionally run events needs to be made available to SA members.

c) What types of workshops/seminars do members want to fill the above gaps?
The group wants events of a practical nature, such as: Cataloguing, Power searching, General skills development for new graduates.

6. Issues of critical importance

Succession planning and the ageing workforce; Information literacy, particularly: concerns about the teacher-librarian course no longer being taught in South Australia; and university students not as IT literate as expected; Copyright issues halting the ability to access information. Members were requested to think further about this and send their comments and suggestions to Liz Walkley-Hall, or raise them at the next ALIA SA meeting.

7. ALIA: Towards 2010 consultation draft

There was little discussion on this topic at the meeting. Members were requested to think further about this and send their comments and suggestions to Liz Walkley-Hall, or raise them at the next ALIA SA meeting.

8. Questions on notice

ALIA website: Password-protected areas of the website were discussed. Do they all need to be password-protected? How can non-members learn about ALIA if they cannot access much of the website? Jennefer confirmed the Board has endorsed a web publishing policy, so the present format cannot be changed.

InterALIA e-list: Concern was raised over the fact that individual members must initiate a subscription to receive the electronic version of InterALIA. The possibility of members being able to nominate automatic subscriptions to e-lists when they join/renew was discussed. Is this a possibility?

Any other comments from the meeting?
Nil.
