ALIA National Advisory Congress

governance issues

ALIA's 2010-2015 Strategic Plan is now available for download:

In May 2005, the Association changed the name of the National Policy Congress to the National Advisory Congress. It was decided that the new name more accurately reflected the role of the congress and in this same year ALIA also adopted a new format for the NAC.

Since 2005 regional meetings have been held across Australia in as many regions as practicable. All financial personal and institutional members are invited to attend these meetings where one person will be elected to represent the region as an NAC delegate.

The aim of regional meetings is to be as informal as possible and provide ample opportunity for members to participate in discussion on policy, planning and any topical issues relevant to the Association. Where possible an ALIA Board Director will facilitate each of the regional meetings supported by a member of ALIA National Office staff.

Generally NAC regional meetings will run for one to two hours and will include success stories from the region and may also include a brief information session about highlights of the work of the Association or a specific ALIA service. The regional program will also have a session covering issues relevant to ALIA's policy and planning. All regional NAC meetings will also have a social component before or after the program as an opportunity for members to network.

During the meeting financial personal and institutional members are invited to choose a member to represent their region as an NAC delegate.

The NAC national meeting will bring together representatives from the regional meetings, invited self-nominating groups, and advisory committees to further discuss issues from the regional meetings and any new issues that have arisen since regional meetings were held.

If you have any questions or would like further information about the NAC please contact membership at ALIA National Office on e-mail or ph 02 6215 8222 or 1800 020 071.
