13th Annual General Meeting

5:30 pm Thursday 10 May 2001. Baillieu Library, University of Melbourne, Ground floor tutorial and committee rooms

  1. Notice of convening meeting
    The meeting opened at 5:49 pm on Thursday 10 May 2001. A quorum of members was present. The acting president in accordance with the Association's constitution gave notice of convening the meeting. The acting president, Alan Bundy, welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced the acting vice-president, Joyce Kirk, the executive director, Jennefer Nicholson and Mr Chris Awcock who had been appointed as Parliamentarian for the AGM.

    Voting rights for members voting in person were established.

    Three proxies were received.

  2. Apologies
    Apologies were received from Mairéad Browne, Margie Anderson, Judy Bundy, Anne Hazell, Sue McKnight, Carolyn McSwiney, Jane King and Peter Matthews.

  3. Minutes of the 2000 Annual General Meeting
    Moved: That the minutes of the 2000 Annual General Meeting be confirmed as a true and correct record of the meeting.

  4. Presentation of the 2000 Annual Report and balance sheet, and income and expenditure account.
    Moved: That the 2000 Annual Report and balance sheet and income and expenditure account as tabled be received.

  5. Presentation of the supplementary balance sheet, and supplementary income and expenditure account to 30 April 2001.
    Moved: That the supplementary balance sheet, and supplementary income and expenditure account to 30 April 2001 as tabled be received.

  6. Election of Directors
    The acting president noted the election of Moyra McAllister and Kevin Dudeney as Directors of the Association. They had been declared elected by the Australian Electoral Commission on Friday 20 April 2001 as follows, Moyra McAllister 796 votes by the general membership and Kevin Dudeney 18 votes by the NPC representatives, and consent to act as directors of the Association until the 2003 AGM.

  7. Fixing of Auditors' fees
    Moved: That the remuneration of PricewaterhouseCoopers, the Association's auditors, be fixed by the directors for the ensuing 12 months.

  8. Reports
    1. President's report
      The acting president, Alan Bundy, referred the meeting to the president Mairéad Browne's Frontline that appeared in the April issue of inCite. On behalf of directors, the acting president expressed his appreciation to Mairéad for the contribution Mairéad Browne made to the Association as president.

    2. Executive director's report
      The executive director presented an oral overview of the Association's 2001 strategic directions, in particular noting the issues arising from the recent Board meeting, namely, a restructure in membership fees, group restructure, and lobbying policies. The executive director acknowledged the contributions made by the current Board of Directors under the new governance.

      Moved: That the report of the executive director on current activities be received.

  10. Conclusion of the meeting
    There being no further business the president declared the 13th Annual General Meeting of ALIA closed at 6:05 pm.
