ALIA seeking new Executive Director28 October 2011 The Board of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) has announced it will be seeking an Executive Director to lead the Association, following the resignation of Sue Hutley, who will be leaving in December to take up the position of Director: Collections and Access at the Queensland State Archives. ALIA President Margaret Allen commended Sue on her six years as Executive Director, highlighting her achievements representing the Association and the profession in a wide range of high profile and significant advocacy initiatives. "Under Sue's leadership, the Association has cemented its role as the peak body for the profession," Ms Allen said. "She has led initiatives that have attracted significant funding, such as the Library Initiative and National Year of Reading, and taken the concerns of the profession to the table to negotiate for positive outcomes in national projects such as the National Broadband Network," she said. "These projects have helped position ALIA as a key player in information strategy nationally." Sue Hutley said the last six years have been rewarding, inspiring and memorable. "It has been a privilege to represent the profession as Executive Director," Ms Hutley said. "As the Association moves into further discussions about the future of the profession and the Association itself, it is timely that changes in leadership also occur," she said. "I would very much like to thank all the ALIA staff and the Board members I have worked with during these years. I wish the Association the very best and I hope to make a contribution in a different form sometime in the future." The Board will be acknowledging Sue's contribution to the Association at the last Board meeting for the year in December. Sue will finish at ALIA House on 23rd December before commencing with Queensland State Archives in January 2012. The position of Executive Director will be advertised immediately, with applications closing on 30 November 2011. Details of the position are available on the website at http://www.alia.org.au/governance/ed.html |
