Election of the Board of DirectorsWe are delighted that six exceptional candidates have stepped forward as potential ALIA Board members for the 2013-2015 period. These are senior people from our sector with a passion for the library and information profession, who are willing to make a significant contribution in terms of their time and expertise. The role of Board members is to help shape the future direction of the Association, providing guidance to the executive team; making policy decisions and being responsible for the financial sustainability of ALIA. It is both challenging and rewarding, and requires a considerable investment of personal time to attend events, chair meetings and support special projects. Who will you vote for? There are three board positions to be filled, including that of ALIA vice-president (and president elect). All our members have the opportunity to vote. The election is being conducted by Australian Election Company and voting will open on 2 March and close at 5:00pm AEDST on 2 April, 2013. Members with an email address registered with ALIA will be sent an email with instructions for casting an internet vote. Australian Election Company will post materials directly to members who do not have an email address to enable them to vote by Postal Voting. The successful candidates will take office at the board meeting following our Annual General Meeting in May 2013, and their positions will be for two years, until the AGM in May 2015. Statement of professional concernsThe strategic imperative to deliver the Association's four outcomes in 2013-2015 and planning beyond requires national collaboration to sustain members' engagement with the objects of the Association. Frameworks exist to formulate policy to reframe professional learning programs, to foster high speed connectivity, to reinvigorate special library sectors, to assist online learning, adult literacy, digitization of heritage and archives, or public access to information. National cross-sectorial collaborations are needed now to reflect diversity, inclusivity, workforce planning and well-being in strengthening the membership, the Association, the profession, and the future for the library and information sectors. jsrabell@gmail.com.nospam (please remove '.nospam' from address) Joseph Cullen

Statement of professional concernsAfter two years on the ALIA Board I believe I have an understanding of the challenges faced by ALIA and the library and information sectors it represents. Working with National Office and my colleagues on the Board I believe that we have put systems in place that will deliver a sustainable member based organisation that can deliver high quality training, first class conferences and, most importantly, high level focused advocacy. Now more than ever it is important to have Board continuity as we face up to the challenges of state government cutbacks, eResources and recognition of PD to name a few! joseph.cullen@erl.vic.gov.au.nospam (please remove '.nospam' from address) Alyson Dalby
