The impacts of the global downturn could be significant for us as individuals and for libraries and the library profession. It is important that ALIA demonstrates leadership in its own right, and collectively with other like minded organizations in addressing significant and complex societal issues that arise and challenge the Association's objects and values. It is equally important for ALIA to continue to foster leadership within its own ranks through its various activities. IFLA 76 in Brisbane in 2010 provides us with an opportunity for ALIA to demonstrate its leadership and that of its dynamic membership to the library world. Professional Activities
