BA(LIS), ALGMA, AALIA Present positionManager, Central West Libraries Previous positionsThe majority of my professional life has been public library based and divided equally between Wollongong and Orange. This was interrupted by a 4 year interlude in “specials” with the NSW Department of Primary Industries. Professional activitiesBecause I'm passionate about libraries and believe that advocacy is the key to their recognition. I am Secretary of Public Libraries NSW – Country, a member of the NSW Public Libraries Consultative Committee; a member of ALIA’s Public Library Advisory Committee and until recently a Director of Public Libraries Australia. I am also coordinating the NSW @ your library campaign. In 2007 I was delighted to be a mentor at the Aurora Institute, a role I will repeat in 2008. Statement of professional concernsLibraries across Australia are being faced with a suite of issues. Political, social and technological changes offer us a myriad of challenges, but also opportunities. It is a time for us to work together as one industry to address these through policy direction, education and professional development for the benefit of our members and the communities we serve. If we are to achieve this and retain our relevance we need to speak with one voice, and to do this we need to work in concert with other library organisations. |
