What are your skills and experience in strategic planning and leadership?

I have been closely involved in strategic planning and leadership roles of the SA Health Libraries Consortium since 1998, in various ALIA groups over many years, in organising events and conferences in ALIA other professional organisations. And, of course, I would bring my work in the strategic planning and overseeing the finances on the ALIA Board over the last two years.

What are your skills and experience in financial management?

As a library manager for manager for many years, I’ve been responsible for large purchasing budgets and whole of library budgeting.  In addition, I’ve worked with the management of both budgets and financial risks involved in major professional events. 

What other skills do you bring as a potential Board member?

In seeking to be re-elected to the ALIA Board, I bring my work of the last two years with the association at the Board level, and from this, a close knowledge of the Association.  In addition, I am a member of Australian Institute of Company Directors and am currently undertaking the AICD Company Directors programme.  This programme will enhance the skills that I would bring to the ALIA Board, in particular, a fuller understanding of the financial and regulatory requirements.

What specific issues interest you, or that you are hoping to address during your time as a Board member?

As indicated above, I would bring my skills in financial management and strategic planning to the Board, as these are the major issues at the Board level .  As events are one key part of benefits for members, I’m keen to plan ahead for a wider range of events than the current regular events and conferences.  As technologies offer us more ways for social and professional networking, ALIA has opportunities to use these technologies to allow members to work together as never before, and I ‘m keen to be involved these opportunities.
