ALIA By-laws Advisory Committee

Terms of reference

Purpose

The ALIA TAFE Libraries Advisory Committee is to advise the ALIA Board of Directors on the development of a strategic program for members working in TAFE libraries or with interests in TAFE librarianship.

The objectives of the Advisory Committee are:

  1. Provide expert and informed advice on TAFE Libraries to relevant bodies
  2. Develop and publish national guidelines and performance measures for TAFE Libraries
  3. Collect and publish national TAFE Library statistics
  4. Promote the sharing of information and resources, including collaborating to improve consortia options
  5. Encourage and support the development of best practice in TAFE libraries, including areas such as learning strategies, information technologies and information literacy
  6. Promote discussion of library and information issues in the TAFE sector
  7. Propose and manage research projects that are related to TAFE
  8. Encourage cross-sectored library co-operation
  9. To strengthen the participation in the Association of information professionals employed in TAFE libraries or with interests inTAFE librarianship to ensure the strength of the sector;
  10. Other matters as determined by the ALIA Board of Directors.

Deliverables

The ALIA TAFE Libraries Advisory Committee, with the assistance of ALIA National Office will:

  • Contribute to discussion papers and submissions to inquiries
  • Provide advice and recommended to the Board on strategic and policy issues for the TAFE library sector

Issues

Issues to be considered by the ALIA TAFE Libraries Advisory Committee could include but are not limited to:

  • Promotion and advocacy for TAFE libraries addressed to the community and to all levels of government
  • Levels and sources of funding for TAFE libraries
  • Staffing, training and professional development issues for TAFE libraries
  • Involvement and engagement of TAFE library members

Membership

The committee will comprise members of the Association with expertise in the TAFE library sector. The committee may co-opt expertise as needed in particular areas and which is not available through its members. The committee may elect a chair from within its membership.

Terms of office

Members will be appointed for up to three years. Members may not serve more than three consecutive terms.

Communication

The committee will meet electronically or face-to-face as needed, but at least once a year. It shall report as required on matters referred by the Board of Directors, and may refer matters of interest or concern to the Board of Directors for consideration.

Review

The committee shall be subject to review no later than 31 December 2011
