ALIA TAFE Libraries Advisory Committee

The ALIA TAFE Libraries Advisory Committee is to advise the ALIA Board of Directors on the development of a strategic program for members working in TAFE libraries or with interests in TAFE librarianship.

What are we doing for ALIA members in TAFE libraries?

The Committee has made good progress with a number of achievements in 2009-10 and several key projects identified for 2010-11:

  • Convening and organising of the TAFE stream for the ALIA Access conference in September 2010
  • Review of National TAFE statistics questions and ongoing collection of data
  • Coordination and maintenance of the National Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme to support students studying externally
  • Planning for the development of advocacy and lobbying information to assist TAFE libraries and illustrate our competitive advantage over private training providers

Make the most of your ALIA membership and be the first to know about future TAFE Libraries Advisory Committee initiatives and events by joining the aliaTAFE e-list.

ALIA 2010 conference - TAFE stream

Theme: TAFE - surprisingly innovative libraries

Format of TLAC Stream: TLAC presented a half-day session built around the theme: TAFE - Surprisingly innovative Libraries!

The aim of the TLAC stream was to appeal to a wide range of librarians who might not be aware of innovations in their local TAFE library. Everyone had an opportunity to see & try out innovative technologies in an approachable, non-technical setting.

It is hoped that many of the featured innovations will interest library practitioners in remote or rural areas since they will address the practical issue of providing resources & services.

Reciprocal Borrowing

The TAFE Libraries National Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme allows students and staff of participating TAFE libraries to register and borrow materials in person from any other participating host TAFE library in any other state in addition to their own home library, thereby improving their access to library materials. The scheme is designed to assist students and staff who may be enrolled with or employed by a TAFE institution in one state but who may find it more convenient to access TAFE library services in another state. The reciprocal borrowing arrangements between TAFE libraries within a state are a matter for those libraries and are not covered by this scheme.
