Membership and Awards Standing Committee Work Plan

Terms of Reference

Purpose
To advise the Board of Directors on policy and strategies for the key priority areas of membership and awards.

Scope

  • Retention and recruitment of institutional and personal members.
  • Engagement and participation of members in their industry and profession.
  • Recognition of the achievements of members through the Association's awards.
  • Skill development for members and the industry in response to current and emerging trends.

Relevant objectives

  • To ensure the high standard of personnel engaged in library and information provision and foster their professional interests and aspirations.
  • To encourage people to contribute to the development and future of library and information services through support and membership of the Association

Membership
The Sub-Committee will comprise of no more than seven members with one board member to act as chairperson, up to two other Board members, the Executive Director or the Executive Director's delegate and the relevant National Office Directors. Person(s) with relevant special expertise may be appointed as necessary.

Strategic Plan
This Sub-Committee will guide discussions on Outcome 1 of the 2011-2015 Strategic Plan and provide advice to the ALIA Board.

Terms of office
Board members to be appointed for the term of their directorship.

Communication
The Sub-Committee will:

  • Meet at least four times per year via teleconference or face to face as required.
  • Report to each face-to-face Board Meeting on the work of the Sub-Committee, via the Chair.
  • Refer matters of interest or concern to the Board of Directors for consideration in timelines consistent with the importance or urgency of the matter
  • Identify industry requirements, consult with stakeholders and library & information industry workforce as required.
  • Report through National Office to the ALIA membership utilising incite, the National Advisory Congress and e-lists as appropriate.
