Library stars: best of the best 2008
2 September 2008 Library stars: best of the best was held as a satellite event at the ALIA 2008 Biennial Conference, dreaming08, in Alice Springs. Following the successful debut at the ALIA 2006 Biennial Conference in Perth of Library stars: best of the best 2006, the 2008 forum, hosted by ALIA's Public Libraries Advisory Committee (PLAC), again showcased public libraries, their projects, and successes. The themes for Library stars: best of the best 2008 reflected the 'dreaming' themes of the ALIA 2008 Biennial Conference: access, entrepreneurship, meeting places.
ProgramThe program was designed to inspire and recognise public library practitioners. It emphasised informal participation and interaction and there was plenty of time to discuss each library's presentation and learn from each other. As well as presentations from the three libraries who were selected by PLAC through a competitive nomination process, there were also posters presented by other nominating libraries. This gave everyone a chance to be inspired by innovative ideas being developed in public libraries across the country.
Delegates Choice AwardDelegates voted for the Delegates Choice Award for the presentation that they considered the best of the best. The Award went to Rockhampton Regional Council (Yeppoon Library) QLD for VerbYL.
Keynote addressThe program featured a keynote address by Inga Lunden, Director of the Stockholm Public Library.
