Terms of Reference
Standardisation of practices relating to libraries, documentation and information centres, indexing and abstracting services, archives, information science and publishing, particularly to produce standards to address the use of computer applications in information and documentation in the following areas of work:
- standardisation of the methods and procedures for use of computers in information and documentation (includes maintenance of liaison with ISO-IEC JTC1);
- communication, including application protocols and formats;
- data element directories, including interlibrary loan, acquisitions, etc;
- computer aspects of electronic manuscripts and publications;
- database management standards for information and documentation;
- information retrieval standards;
- character sets; and
- codes for computer usage.
Participation in ISO TC 46 Information and Documentation, particularly Subcommittee 4, Computer Applications in information and Documentation.
To maintain a watching brief over other areas of work of TC 46 which relate to computer applications in information and documentation with a view to providing input to international standards work and adopting standards relevant to Australia and New Zealand.
