Take home messages
- It was with pleasure that The Board endorsed the recommendation of the Chair of the Aurora Foundation to award the 2009 ALIA Aurora Scholarship to Catherine Knight.
- Appointments to the new ALIA Library Technician Advisory Committee were decided. The Board was extremely pleased to see the large number of nominees for this committee and look forward to the future initiatives from this group. This Committee will be chaired by Gail Schmidt who has been instrumental in its formation and has vast experience.
- The Board granted recognition to the Bachelor of Arts (Librarianship and Corporate Information Management), Graduate Diploma in Information and Library Studies, and Masters Program in Information Management (Librarianship) offered by Curtin University of Technology for a period of seven years from April 2009 to April 2016.
- The Graduate Diploma of Library and Information Management (Library stream), and Masters of Library and Information Management (Library stream) offered by University of South Australia was also recognised for a period of two years from November 2009 to November 2011.
- The Board agreed to the recommendation from the Governance Standing Committee that previous past presidents be invited to contribute to Board as required. They also supported the recommendation from the Membership and Awards Standing Committee that only ALIA members be eligible for ALIA Group Awards.
- The Board formally expressed its thanks to Ian McCallum for his work as editor of Australian Library Journal.
- A report was received a report from the ALIA Special Libraries Advisory Committee which was established earlier this year and who have been developing a strategic direction for this sector. The Board congratulated the Committee on their achievements to date and look forward to seeing further progress in this area.
- Partnerships continued to be a major focus for the Board with ALIA signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Friends of Libraries Australia (FOLA) in the week of the Board meeting and having discussions with Australian Law Libraries Association (ALLA)
- The outstanding contribution that Jane Hardy, Assistant Director: Strategy & Advocacy has made to the Association was recognised and the Board wished Jane all the best in her future Career.
- The Board acknowledged the sad passing of Kay Poustie OAM who was internationally recognised for her contribution to public libraries and who was a great supporter of the Association. ALIA is working key members regarding appropriate recognition of Kay's service to the profession.
