Take home messages

• The Board members and ALIA National Office executive staff gave presentations about their background and experience which provided an insight into the wide range of expertise that is brought to ALIA and contributes to its governance and strategic directions
• The President, Jan Richards, provided an update on planning for the ALIA Public Libraries Summit on 16 July 2009; the first two Public Library Ambassadors have announced and a Little book of public libraries is being produced as part of the Summit
• The President and Executive Director will represent ALIA at the Peak Bodies Forum 2009
• The Board has endorsed the development of a five year strategic plan and will hold a half day workshop in July that will focus on its development
• The Board endorsed a new Standing Committee to be called the ALIA National Partnerships Standing Committee
• The 2009 National Advisory Congress theme was confirmed: Lobbying and Advocacy: working together to make a difference
• The Board discussed the appointment of a Professional Conference Organiser that will handle all ALIA conferences from 2011-2012
