ALIA Board of Directors 03 March - Take home messages
3 March, 2008
Linking people with ideas
- The 2007 Financial Report and Auditors report was accepted and the AGM was confirmed for the AGM on 13 May 2008
- Peak Bodies forum and what topics ALIA might presented was discussed (education, public libraries and IFLA were the agreed topics).
- 2008/09 planning schedule with a particular focus on this year's National Advisory Congress (NAC) and how that could work in 2008.
- The Education and Workforce Summit on 28 March: the Board felt that following up on the outcomes and decisions made at that summit should be a key focus of discussions around the nation.
- NAC 08 would focus on what members felt were the big issues, the circuit breakers and makers for our profession.
- Prime Minister Rudd's 20:20: the Board was advised that Roxanne Missingham has put her name forward for consideration in her capacity as ALIA President. It is hoped that at least 1 of the 1,000 is a passionate librarian!
- ALIA, with its PLA partner, is also preparing a submission with its key message being the state of literacy standards in Australia and the need for government to stand up and pay attention to this enormously critical issue.
- The next big event in everyone's diary is the Education and Workforce Summit being held on Friday 28 March at the State Library of Victoria. If you are not attending you can still have your say through written submissions which are due by 12 March. Also keep an eye on the summit website for the papers at http://www.alia.org.au/education/summit08/.
