ALIA Board of Directors JULY - Take home messages

July, 2008

  1. Directors considered the Top Ten priorities for 2008-2009
  2. Public Libraries Summit to go ahead in March/April 2009 with an initial budget approved. The Board requested the Executive Director to call for expressions of interest for the position of ALIA Public Libraries Summit Project Officer as soon as possible.
  3. Draft Advisory Committees Guidelines were discussed. It was agreed that part of the guidelines would include each committee deciding between the following options for minutes of meetings :
    • Minutes to be published on the committee webpages by committee members
    • A meeting summary to be published on the committee webpages
    • No minutes to be published
  4. It was agreed that appointments to ALIA Advisory Committees are on the basis of the individual member, and that proxies are not appropriate for these committees. For ALIA Members appointed to external committees, the member should follow the procedures relating to proxies agreed by that external committee.
  5. The Board agreed in principle to establish two advisory committees subject to consultation with the members: ALIA Special Libraries Advisory Committee, ALIA TAFE Libraries Advisory Committee.
  6. A draft of the Membership survey was presented for review. Further work required. Still expecting to be conducted in October 2008.
  7. An update report on IFLA2010 was provided by the National Committee Chair, Keith Webster.
  8. It was agreed to establish a charitable fund to support Asia-Pacific Librarians to attend IFLA 2010.
  9. A draft budget for the ALIA National Library and Information Technicians Conference 2009 was approved.
  10. The Board endorsed the Health Libraries Australia (HLA) - HLA Guidelines – to be launched at the Biennial Conference.
