The Hon John C Kobelke Dear Minister I refer to the Report on the review of the Gender Pay Gap in Western Australia and your invitation for public comment. The Australian Library and Information Association [ALIA] strongly supports the Report's findings and recommendations. In particular, ALIA welcomes recommendation 3 proposing conduct of gender pay equity audits which embodies our recommendation to the Review Panel. We especially endorse the proposal for a leading role for Government in this respect. In the conduct of such audits, we urge the Government to note the importance of careful consideration of the situation of major feminised occupations such as librarianship, as well as that of individual women. In this connection, we would recommend careful consideration of the NSW Industrial Relations Commission's Full Bench Test Case for Librarians, Library Technicians and Archivists as a valuable resource for those conducting audits in Western Australia. Finally, ALIA congratulates you and the Government on this excellent initiative and stands ready to contribute to its progress in any way it can. Yours faithfully
