meet the Library’s needs
-
Under broad direction, lead the formulation and implementation of policy, strategy and system solutions for collections management
operations
-
Provide high level strategic, policy and technical advice to Library managers and assist them to identify their collection management
needs
This position will make a significant contribution to shaping and implementing the National Library’s goals and priorities during a time of
significant change. This position will lead a project to develop and implement the Library’s strategy for the replacement of existing
library collection management systems and discovery systems.
The project will also cover the provision of new systems, such as electronic resources management and a next generation discovery layer,
that are not supported by our current library system. The replacement of our digital library infrastructure is occurring as part of a
separate project and is therefore out of scope for this project.
The project will occur in two phases:
• The first phase of approximately six months will determine the scope of the project (including the specific systems to be replaced) and
an environmental scan of available systems. Part of this phase will be to determine the Library’s strategy for the discovery of our
collections through our catalogue vis ŕ vis our other services such as Libraries Australia and Trove. This first phase will also
investigate and determine the Library’s policy in relation to the use of open source software, cloud computing, and software as a service
for collection management, discovery and delivery functions.
• The scope and length of the second phase of the project will necessarily be influenced by the outcomes and decisions made in the first
phase. However, it is likely to take place over an additional 2-3 years and involve the selection and implementation of a replacement
system or systems.
Please note that applicants may be assessed on applications and references only.
