The Position:

This role provides a great opportunity for a Library Officer to take on a diverse role in a highly successful team.

Reporting to the Manager Library Services,the successful candidate will be responsible for contribution to the efficient day to day running of a designated council site.

You will be involved in all aspects of effective customer services to those who access the library and/or council services available to the community; provide clerical and other administrative support at a designated council site; and act as an accurate information source for the resources provided at the designated council site.

It is desirable to have successfully completed Year 12 and be experienced in providing library services and a range of other customer services, preferably working in a customer service role in public libraries. You will be have a basic knowledge of OHS Act and relevant EEO legislation as well as Copyright Act as it applies to Libraries.

You will have a sound knowledge of the following:

  • Library policies on matters relating to the delivery of services and operation of library systems.
  • Operation procedures and processes within the library.
  • The roles, services and functions provided by Council.
  • Resources held within the Library Service or available from other libraries or organisations.
  • Understanding of library systems (eg. LCSH & DDC) and work practices (eg. collection management).
  • Understanding of computer based services (eg. internet and computer applications).

Your Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assist customers with routine library and community information enquiries and assist customers to use library resources and equipment.
  • Undertake all of the tasks associated with the circulation of library materials.
  • Assist customers to access a range of Council Services (which may include cashiering, processing DA's, registering dogs and other tasks).
  • Process library stock (including interlibrary loans); undertake copy cataloguing, stock maintenance, undertake data entry and basic maintenance on the bibliographic databases.
  • Assist with the maintenance of library IT systems.
  • Assist by actively promoting and marketing the Library Service.
  • Assist and support in the delivery of library programs and activities.
  • Assist in serving housebound and other customers with special needs which may include delivering materials to housebound customers.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the library collections.
  • Oversee the activities of agency staff, volunteers and work experience students.
  • Assist the team in meeting appropriate performance objectives.
  • Maintain and promote a high level of morale within the team and other Council staff.
  • Maintain a neat and tidy workspace.
  • Maintain personal Performance Development Review record in the Corporate Information Database.
  • Attend monthly Performance Development Review meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with the Code of Conduct, Council policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • The creation and capture of Corporate Records relating to this position.

salary$56,364.06 FTE ($22,545.62 actual) - plus benefits
