As Information Adviser you will be responsible for providing information services for Library users; supervising and assisting other
Library staff and for maintaining the security of the building and collections.
These positions will have a set pattern of hours per fortnight which will be worked during the semester and which will include after-hours
shifts in the evening and/or on weekends and public holidays.
Leave may not be taken during academic teaching periods.

Role statement
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
To provide information access services within the University Library. Hours will be worked during semester periods, and will include
after-hours shifts on the evening and/or weekend and public holidays.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS:
Responsible, under general direction for providing information access services for Library users, supervising a small team and maintaining
building security.
Position Dimension & Relationships:
This position works under general direction of the User Services Coordinator or the Information Access Coordinator in the Precinct.
Role Statement:
1. Providing services facilitating access to Library user services and scholarly information resources including
* Advising and assisting users with relevant services
* Advising and assisting users with access to scholarly information resources in all formats
2. Supervising and assisting members of the team to ensure that:
* Staff are on duty as rostered
* Priorities of work are clearly indicated
* Service points are adequately staffed
* All equipment is functioning
* Problems are reported to the area supervisor
3. Maintaining the security of the building during after-hours shifts, including the supervision of opening and closing procedures.
4. Being the first point of contact for other services offered through the Division of Information and the ANU in general including
responding to level-one enquiries about accessing scholarly information, general IT and providing telephone support
5. Participating in meetings, training and professional activities, planning and general administrative tasks relevant to the
classification and work area
6. Comply with all ANU policies and procedures, and in particular those relating to work health and safety and equal opportunity
*It is a requirement of this position that you be physically fit and capable of moving items of moderate weight.
Selection criteria
1. Demonstrated experience with using automated Library systems including circulation, and experience with using desktop computer
applications. Associate Diploma in Library Studies OR a Library Technician Certificate would be an advantage.
2. Sound understanding of accessing scholarly information resources in all formats and a good understanding of a client focussed service
environment
3. Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills together with the ability to liaise with a broad
range of people
4. Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and with minimal supervision in a busy work environment and a demonstrated
ability to supervise staff
5. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines in a changeable work environment
6. A demonstrated general knowledge and understanding of equal opportunity principles as they relate to employment.
