Position Overview

We are seeking applications from enthusiastic team players with a commitment to quality client service who would like to be considered as part of a pool of candidates for employment as vacancies arise, over a period of 12 months.
You will support the service delivery team at the Loans Desk by processing loans, answering routine enquiries, participating in the shelving of library materials and assisting Library users with the operation of equipment.

You will have a set pattern of hours per fortnight which will be worked during the semester and which will include after-hours shifts in the evening and/or on weekends and public holidays.

Leave may not be taken during teaching periods.

Experience with standard computer software applications, good communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work effectively as a team-member are all essential requirements. An understanding of library circulation practices is highly desirable.

Role Statement

PURPOSE STATEMENT:
To provide Library user services within the University Library which will be worked during semester periods, and will include after-hours shifts on the evening and/or weekend and public holidays.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS:
Responsible, under routine supervision for assisting with the delivery of Library user services associated with circulation and with preparing and processing material for document supply.

Position Dimension & Relationships:
This position works under the routine supervision of the Information Adviser, User Services Coordinator or the Information Access Coordinator in each Branch Library.

Role Statement:
1. Participating in the work of the loans desk including:
*Charging, discharging loans, both automated and manual
* Answering routine enquiries and referring problems and reference questions to the appropriate officer
* Registering Library users
* Shelving Library material and assisting with building security
* Facilitating financial transactions
* Assigning study facilities to Library users
* Searching for missing books identified by the automated and manual system
* Processing Library material requiring re-binding and re-labelling

2. Participating in the preparation and processing of material for document supply

3. Assisting users with the operation of equipment.

4. Participating in meetings, training and professional activities, planning and general administrative tasks relevant to the classification and work area.

*It is a requirement of this position that you be physically fit and capable of moving items of moderate weight.

Selection Crieria

1. Knowledge of desktop computer applications and general keyboard skills.

2. An understanding of a client-focused service environment and of library circulation practices.

3. Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to liaise with a broad range of people

4. Demonstrated ability to complete tasks in accordance with direction and to work effectively as a member of a team in a busy work environment

5. A demonstrated general knowledge and understanding of equal opportunity principles as they relate to employment.

salary$44,092 - $46,153 pa plus 17% superannuation (paid pro rata
