APS 3, Senior Stack Attendant

  • Undertake duties relating to storage, maintenance and delivery of the Library’s collections including Rare and Special collection material and conducting/supervising maintenance tasks within the Library’s Newspaper collection.
  • Within clear guidelines assist with the training and supervision of staff engaged in activities relating to storage, maintenance and service delivery activities.
  • Effectively liaise with staff and other functional areas of the Library and importantly with members of the public requiring assistance.

The National Library is seeking a motivated and flexible person with demonstrated operational and technical knowledge in storage, maintenance and delivery of library materials for ongoing employment at the APS 3 level.

Staff at this level require effective liaison, communication and interpersonal skills, will be motivated and flexible and will be capable of making an effective contribution to the achievement of corporate goals in a team environment.

The position involves supervising and training staff engaged in activities relating to storage, maintenance and delivery of Library collections from a closed Stack including Rare and Special collection material and Newspaper collections as well as retrieving and re-shelving library collections, delivering material to clients within service standards and undertaking maintenance of collections. The successful occupant will be expected to have strong bibliographic skills which would enable them to resolve problems including inconsistent catalogue records and undertaking bibliographic index checks.

The successful occupant of the position must possess the physical capabilities to effectively perform the tasks which may include carrying out PC based tasks, lifting material weighing up to 10 kilos, pushing trolleys, retrieving material from high and low level shelving and operating specialised machinery such as shrinkwrap equipment (and ideally operating stockpickers to access high rise shelves). Some of these tasks may involve the use of a footstool and bending or reaching above shoulder height. All furniture and equipment meets relevant WH&S standards.

Relevant library experience and/or relevant qualifications are highly desirable to assist with performing the duties of the position.

The position may involve weekend work.
