The Information Resources Group provides information management services to Swinburne. It has about 100 staff (about 75 FTE) located across five campuses
in Melbourne, and provides support to these and to the overseas campus in Kuching (Sarawak) and to offshore teaching.
The main focus of the Library Customer Services Officer position is to provide an excellent general enquiry service and associated loans services for
Swinburne students and staff at the campus based Library Service Desk and at the Library’s central telephone and email enquiry service. This includes
assisting customers in the basic use of the catalogue and other electronic resources and equipment. The position also participates in other library
operations including collection maintenance and processing of materials for the subject materials service. Flexibility to work evening shifts and weekends
is required.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role you must have completed a certificate level qualification (Certificate III in Library and Information Services), or an
equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. You will also need to demonstrate:
- Experience in providing high quality customer service in a busy environment, preferably in a library.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a clear and articulate telephone manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills appropriate to the diverse customer service environment.
- IT literacy including familiarity with the Internet and experience in the basic operation of PCs, laptops, printers, photocopiers and other equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, to work independently, to work under limited supervision, and to be resourceful.
