Macquarie University is first among the nation's universities under 50 years of age due to significant investment in areas of research
excellence. Located on 126 hectares, we enjoy excellent facilities and we are easily accessible by rail and bus. The new Macquarie
University Library opened in August 2011 and is the first University Library in Australia to install an Automated Storage and Retrieval
System (ASRS). This technology underpins a shift in focus from traditional hard copy resources to support for technology enabled
learning.
Within the Library, the role of the Library Services team is to deliver client focused services utilising new and emerging technologies
in line with University strategic directions for a blended learning and research experience.
The Role
As a Services Librarian, you will be part of a team responsible for providing high quality information services in a very busy
environment. Your information skills will support students, and various community clients who use the Library's physical services. You
will be working within a client centred service model providing services at the point of need including in the Library, through the
Library's virtual services and through designing services and products for 24/7 online access.
You will also be a member of a smaller team collaborating to develop and deliver face to face and virtual reference services to a
specific client group. The teams are committed to the delivery of quality service based on continuous testing and analysis of client
needs to ensure we deliver services that meet their expressed needs, are in line with modern information provision and are aligned with
the University's expectations. Your efficient and professional utilisation of information resources and access tools, combined with an
understanding and knowledge of the needs and expectations of each client segment, will contribute to the evaluation of the Library's
collections and the development of products and services to meet identified information needs of each client group.
We are looking for people who are highly adaptive and willing to take on new challenges, who enjoy working in busy client service
environment and who can demonstrate an active interest in ongoing changes affecting library environment. To be successful in this role
you will need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
Day, evening and weekend shifts will be required.
Selection Criteria

Degree or equivalent experience in library, information science or related discipline.

Skill and experience in evaluating and responding to client information and resource needs.

Skill and experience in the provision of services in a team environment.

Knowledge of how to use research and resource discovery tools in an academic environment.

Skill and experience in the provision of Information Literacy assistance to clients.

Skill and experience in identifying and contributing to the review of client related service improvements.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both physical and online environments.
