The National Library serves Australians by developing, preserving and making accessible an outstanding collection of material relating to Australians and
Australia and resources from around the world. The Library collects a wide range of research materials and the collection includes more than eight million
items ranging from books and journals to paintings, drawings and prints, manuscripts, photographs, maps, aerial photographs, music scores and oral history
recordings in analogue and digital form.
The National Library is seeking to fill the key position of Assistant Director-General, Collections Management. The successful candidate will lead the
Division and be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of strategy and services which represent in excess of $33 million of the Library’s
overall expenditure and over 170 people of the Library’s entire workforce.
The Assistant Director-General, Collections Management must scope the environment to anticipate changes and then drive the initiatives that serve the
strategic directions of the Library. A key challenge over the next decade is also to harness the benefits of new technologies to provide the Australian
community with greater access to the extraordinary national collection and the information resources of the world.
As part of the corporate leadership team for the National Library, the successful candidate will raise the profile of the role of libraries in making the
nation’s collections accessible.
The position is located in Canberra and some interstate and international travel will be required.
