Please note that the most recent Salary scales is here. Salaries for Australian librarians and library technicians 2004New standards for fair payment of Australian librarians and library technicians have now been set. Taking account of the current environment, the work value of these employees has been comprehensively analysed: first, via judicial review in the New South Wales Pay Equity Inquiry; second in the subsequent Industrial Relations Commission Full Bench Test Case for librarians, library technicians and archivists. The work value and required skills and qualifications of librarians and library technicians determined in these judgements are global in character and, broadly, relate to the work of the whole Australian library and information sector. Consequently, there now exists for the first time, a clear yardstick or benchmark for fair payment of all Australian librarians and library technicians. ALIA urges all their employers to set pay rates and employment conditions against the equity framework established by these important judicial analyses of library and information specialists' true worth. Defined roles and pay levels are set out in Section 1. Casual employment is discussed in Section 2. |
