Brisbane City Council’s flagship library is in the heart of the CBD. Brisbane Square is our largest library facility at 4,500 square metres providing a vibrant hub of activity engaging new technologies and offering first class facilities, events and activities for every age group within a diverse community. Library Services is searching for skilled and enthusiastic Library Technicians to join their knowledgeable team.

Library Technicians are paraprofessionals who directly support their Team Leader and Librarians. They play a vital role in delivering high standards of services in a modern and continuously changing environment. Your well-developed interpersonal skills will allow you to provide a positive experience and excellent customer service to library customers and colleagues. Vital to your success is demonstrating strong technological skills, along with a passion and energy in delivering a range of activities including reading, storytelling, learning and outreach activities.

Brisbane Square has two roles available. One permanent fulltime role, working 36.25 hours per week and a 25-hour Flexible Permanent Part Time role. Both positions work a Monday to Saturday roster requiring evening availability and regular Sunday shifts, which attract overtime.

In addition to this, you will have the ability to mentor others in developing their information technology skills and more crucially able to provide support to your team leader to achieve key Library Services objectives.

Your knowledge of our diverse collections and products will enable you to deliver strong customer service and contribute to achieving our broader goals as a branch. You will also have effective problem-solving skills, particularly with technology and computer services used in libraries. All library staff deliver Children’s Literacy Programs to children and their parents/carers.

To be considered for the role you will have:

  • experience and commitment to delivering a strong customer focus in our public libraries
  • demonstrated success in working effectively in a high performing team environment and ability to supervise a work team
  • proven ability in maintaining, troubleshooting and operating library technical equipment.
  • success in delivering on programs and services such as promotion, outreach and children’s services
  • experience in maintaining library collections and applying collection management principles
  • well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.

A diploma in library and information management or related discipline, together with experience will be highly regarded.
