Teacher-librarian

What will you do?

  • A teacher-librarian supports and implements the vision of their school communities through advocating and building effective library and information services and programs that contribute to the development of lifelong learners.

  • A teacher-librarian holds recognised teaching qualifications and qualifications in librarianship, defined as professional associate (librarian) membership of ALIA. This dual qualification enables you to:
    • work as a teacher-librarian; and
    • apply for a professional librarian position

  • A teacher-librarian is uniquely qualified within the broad fields of education and librarianship with curriculum knowledge and pedagogy combined with library and information management knowledge and skills.

What qualifications do you need?

You need to have formal qualifications in education prior to enrolling in an ALIA-recognised teacher-librarian course:

New South Wales

Charles Sturt University

Queensland

Queensland University of Technology (Kelvin Grove)

  • Master of Education (Teacher-Librarianship)
    School of Cultural and Language Studies in Education

A teacher-librarian specialisation is available to students who meet the admission requirements to this stream of the following courses:
