ALIA PD scheme requirements
Participation in ALIA's professional development (PD) scheme is open to personal 'professional' Associate members and Library technician members only and is voluntary, but once you join you are required to comply with the requirements of the scheme.
It's simple! All you need to do is -
- Join the scheme
Register to participate:
- online
to get started; or
- download
[57kb pdf] ALIA's PD registration brochure and return it to ALIA National office by mail or fax
The brochure is also available in your 'new member' pack, at ALIA events and from the Local liaison officer in your State.
ALIA's PD officer will acknowledge receipt of your registration by e-mail and is available to clarify any queries or concerns.
- Collect PD points
- a minimum of 30 points each year
- a minimum of 120 points each triennium (3 years)
-
Check out the 'summary of activities'
table, which:
- helps you select PD activities
- provides a description of the types of activities that are valid PD
- shows how points are allocated; and
- documents the record keeping requirements for audit
-
Record your PD activities
Update your 'Annual PD summary record sheet' and complete the 'ALIA record of learning activities sheet' for each PD activity you undertake if a 'certificate of participation' is not provided
- do this a couple of days after the event to re-enforce what you have learned; and
- add it to your PD file so you can put your hands on all your paperwork when you are selected for audit.
-
Count on being audited
- It's a good habit to maintain a personal record AS YOU GO of time spent on PD activities - don't leave it until audit time!
- ALIA randomly selects ten per cent of members annually to conduct an audit of PD activities to ensure you are doing this.
