Professional development (PD)

PD Scheme Glossary


Activity Title The name or brief description of the PD activity, for example, "Event management training" or "Prepare paper for ALIA Access conference".
Activity Type Your activity must classify as one of the valid PD activities listed in the Summary of PD Activities.
Associate Fellow
AFALIA (CP)
AFALIA Tec (CP)
An Associate Fellow is a self-nominating category open to all members of the PD scheme after 5 years of compliance and fulfilling additional criteria.
Audit ALIA undertakes an audit of 10% of PD scheme participants each PD year. Upon request, members of the scheme must provide a record of their activities. More Information.
Certified Practitioner (CP) A member of the PD scheme who can demonstrate compliance with PD scheme requirements for at least one PD year.
Current PD Record A list of the PD activities you have completed. It includes activities automatically entered by the internal ALIA PD events database and activities you have entered yourself.
Finish Date The date you completed your PD activity. It can be the same as the start date if the activity was only for one day.
Learning Outcome Learning outcome provides the opportunity to reflect on your PD activity. It is more than a description of the activity.
It is:
  • Recording your views,
  • evaluating your experiences,
  • thinking about relevance to your professional practice and
  • linking new learning to what you have learned before
Mandatory Field This is a compulsory field and you cannot continue without completing it.
Member number Your unique ALIA allocated membership number found on your membership card.
Member password This is a secret six digit code you have chosen to use to log into your ALIA membership. If you have forgotten your password please click here to have it emailed to you.

PD Points PD points are how ALIA weights a PD activity. The Summary of PD activities gives a detailed account of how points are to be allocated and the PD Points maximum annual limit for each activity type. For more information go here.

PD Record Menu Links you to your current PD record so you can view it.
PD Training A list of PD activities offered by ALIA, categorized by general interest area. To view check here.
PD Triennium A grouping of three PD years in which you have accumulated your minimum 120 points.
PD Year PD points are calculated based on the financial year, July 1 to June 30. This is the same as the membership year.
Provider The organisation that has offered the PD activity. For example, University of Sheffield for FOLIOz courses. This will not be relevant to activities such as professional reading.
Start Date The date you commenced an activity.
Summary of PD Activities The PD Summary provides a description of the types of activities that are valid PD including how points are allocated. View the Summary of PD activities.
