Reciprocal recogition agreements

ALIA has reciprocal recognition agreements with the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (UK) and the American Library Association (ALA).

• UK - Chartered Insititute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP)

  The agreement between CILIP and ALIA enable holders of ALIA-recognised qualications at graduate level to seek Charter membership of CILIP. Holders of graduate level qualifications accredited by CILIP are eligible for ALIA Associate (librarian) membership and may apply for positions advertised at librarian level in Australia.

• USA / Canada - American Library Association (ALA) / Canadian Library Association (CLA)

  The American Library Association and the Canadian Library Association accept an ALIA-recognised master degree in library and information management as equivalent to an ALA accredited master qualification. Holders of graduate level qualifications accredited by ALA are eligible for ALIA Associate (librarian) membership and may apply for positions advertised at librarian level in Australia.

• What about a job exchange?

  LIBEX acts as a clearinghouse for CILIP members and LIS workers from any non-UK country wishing to exchange jobs with someone in the UK (and only the UK). Australian job-holders don't have to be a member of CILIP to use this free service but please note LIBEX does not arrange the exchange ... you will need to use the online database yourself to search for positions that interest you.

• American Library Association

• Canadian Library Association

  The Canadian Library Association's website has sections on careers in Canada, library related employment sites and 'classifieds' for career opportunities.
