ALIA educationNational training package
Innovation and Business Skills Australia (IBSA) has a responsibility to bring together key industry sectors, including the library and information services sector, at a time when business is demanding new approaches to skilling the workforce to cope with the change that the ongoing introduction of new and more sophisticated technologies brings. IBSA provides an important link between the cultural and creative industries and other areas of industry such as financial services, information and communication technologies and the vocational and education training system which provides training through training packages developed by specific industries for people entering the workforce in trade, technical and other similar jobs. The National Museums and Library/Information Services Training Package was first developed in 1999. A revised version of the training package was endorsed in 2004 following evaluation of the original version. ALIA had significant input into the development of both the original and revised versions of the training package. The training package sets out the knowledge and skills or competencies required by library and information workers up to and including library technician level, if they are to perform effectively in their workplace. It groups the competencies at the various levels into national qualifications (Certificate, Diploma, etc) that align to the Australian Qualifications Framework. To enhance opportunities for promotion it is possible to have your competencies assessed against the training package either by taking a course or through on-the job training. Following the assessment process, you may be awarded a nationally recognised qualification aligned to the Australian Qualifications Framework at Certificate II, Certificate III or Certificate IV level. |
