course descriptionThe Master of Information Services aims to produce graduates capable of filling senior roles in the information services, information brokerage, information management and knowledge management industries. The course is designed to address market needs for professional information services staff with a broad range of high level skills in information services, information management and information technology. Students may exit the Master of Information Services after twelve months of full-time study with a Graduate Diploma of Science (Information Services). In certain areas of specialisation, students may exit the Master of Information Services after twelve months of part-time study with a Graduate Certificate in Information Services.

Students must select one of the following five areas of specialisation and must complete all units in the selected area of specialisation for the Master award.

Information Science Area of Specialisation Teacher Librarianship Area of Specialisation Digital Recordkeeping and Security Studies Area of Specialisation
Archives and Records Area of Specialisation
Knowledge Services Area of Specialisation

Course duration is 1.5 years of full-time study or equivalent part-time.* This course is available for study either internally (on campus) or online (at a distance) – please note that some units are available only through online study. Students complete a one semester industry project in the final semester of study.

ALIA accreditationThe Master of Information Services - Information Science Stream and Master of Information Services - Teacher Librarianship Stream offered by Edith Cowan University are accredited by ALIA for a period of five years from June 2012 subject to a satisfactory annual return being provided by Edith Cowan University, and the right of ALIA to reassess the courses on the occurrence of what, in ALIA's view, are exceptional circumstances, and in any event, once during that five-year period and no later than June 2017.
Course Advisory CommitteeThe Course Advisory Committee is made up of local industry representatives who participate in reviewing and evaluating the course material and provides input into current trends in the industry.

The Course Advisory Committee meets twice per year.
