course descriptionThis course, offered as part of the Library and Information Services Training Package, replaces the Diploma of Library and Information Studies and is the foundation for vocational education and training in the diverse work environments that comprise the library and information industry.

To attain the Diploma, the student must be competent in twenty-one units, thirteen compulsory and eight other units. All units of competency are offered over two years' full-time and four years' part-time on an internal basis. Resources for units of competency are also being developed on an incremental basis for distance learning/flexible delivery on a part-time basis. Recognition of prior learning is available.

Applicants will normally enter the training package at Certificate II level and progress through all the levels of competencies to attain the Diploma-level qualification. Entry into the training package requires applicants to demonstrate key competencies at Year 12 level or equivalent.

Applicants entering at other levels of the training package will be required to undertake assessment to identify their prior learning and current competencies. Students who exit the training package after attaining all units of competency at a specific qualification level are eligible for that relevant Certificate/Diploma. If a qualification is only partly achieved, a Statement of Attainment can be issued for the successful completion of any individual unit of competency.
